Every organization has people who quietly define its story, the ones who show up, grow through the process, and help everyone else do the same. At ProDevs, one of those people is Confidence Ugolo, our Head of Engineering, who recently hit a remarkable milestone of five years with the team.
Five years may not sound like much on paper, but it represents seasons of growth, learning, rebuilding, and resilience. Confidence joined ProDevs when we were still finding our rhythm, a small team with big dreams and a shared belief that African talents could build world-class solutions.
Today, as we examine the systems, platforms, and people that comprise the ProDevs ecosystem, it’s hard not to see his imprint in the teams he has led, the products he has helped shape, and the culture of mentorship and excellence he continues to nurture.
This isn’t just a work anniversary. It’s a story of evolution, leadership, and what it means to grow alongside the vision you believe in.
We sat with Confidence to reflect on his five-year journey, the highs, the lessons, and the heart behind his work.
In Conversation with Confidence
Q: Five years is a milestone! Looking back, how has your journey at ProDevs shaped both your career and personal growth?
Confidence: My journey at ProDevs has been transformative. Professionally, I’ve grown from being highly technical to also developing leadership and people-management skills. Personally, I’ve learned resilience, adaptability, and the importance of teamwork. ProDevs has pushed me to always aim higher, but it has also taught me balance and the value of community.
Q: What was your very first role or project here, and how different is your work today?
Confidence: My first role was focused on hands-on software development, solving technical problems, and building solutions. Today, while I still stay close to the code, my role has evolved into guiding teams, mentoring talents, and driving strategic impact. I’ve moved from just building to enabling others to build at scale.
Q: What’s one challenge you faced that really defined your growth at ProDevs?
Confidence: One defining challenge was learning to manage tight deadlines while ensuring quality delivery. Balancing client expectations with team capacity taught me a lot about communication, prioritization, and problem-solving. It stretched me, but it also shaped me into a stronger leader.
Q: If you had to describe ProDevs’ culture in three words, what would they be and why?
Confidence: Innovative, Collaborative, Empowering.
Innovative, because we’re always pushing boundaries and experimenting with solutions.
Collaborative, because no one succeeds alone here; we build together.
Empowering, because ProDevs invests in people’s growth, both technically and personally.
Q: How does ProDevs support its people beyond just the work?
Confidence: ProDevs provides constant learning opportunities, mentorship, and a strong sense of community. There’s always encouragement to grow, not just as professionals but as well-rounded individuals. We also emphasize work-life balance, which helps everyone bring their best selves to work.
Q: What’s the one ProDevs tradition or practice that makes you proud to be part of the team?
Confidence: Definitely the culture of knowledge-sharing and mentorship. Everyone is encouraged to teach, learn, and uplift others. That culture of growth and giving back makes me proud to be part of ProDevs.
Q: What are some of the most exciting projects you’ve worked on that made you feel like you were building impact?
Confidence: TalentApply is definitely one, our AI-powered job readiness platform that helps talents with everything from CV reviews to cover letter generation. We also integrated AI automations on the ProDevs.io portal to make talent search and matching easier for clients. Another one that stands out is Mentra, a platform we helped build to provide accessible mental health therapy. These projects remind me that what we build goes beyond technology, it touches lives and solves real problems.
Q: How has ProDevs changed over the past five years, and where do you see it going next?
Confidence: ProDevs has grown from a promising startup into a trusted player in the industry. The team is bigger, more diverse, and our impact is wider. Looking ahead, I see us expanding globally, setting new standards for talent development and tech solutions.
Q: What would you say to new talents or clients who are just getting to know ProDevs?
Confidence: To new talents, come ready to learn, grow, and be challenged. ProDevs takes your growth seriously.
To clients, partnering with ProDevs means working with a team that genuinely cares about your success. We don’t just deliver projects; we deliver value.
Q: Outside of work, who is Confidence? What passions or values drive you?
Confidence: Outside of work, I’m passionate about community, mentorship, and exploring agro-tech. I enjoy meaningful conversations and activities that promote growth. I value integrity, creativity, and making a positive impact wherever I can.
Q: What advice would you give your 5-year-younger self just starting at ProDevs?
Confidence: Be patient with the process, trust your journey, and don’t be afraid to take on challenges bigger than you. Growth happens outside your comfort zone, and every challenge is preparing you for greater opportunities.
